As Barton Town Councillors we are amazed and appalled that Conservative-run North Lincolnshire Council has applied for planning permission on the Top Field to develop a supermarket, pub and 70 houses. This will destroy a much loved and used public green space and have an incredibly harmful impact on the viability of the Town Centre, which they are currently spending money on trying to regenerate, but would argue that this area is not a surplus asset. It is a public green space and has been since the A15 was built.
What we don’t understand is why North Lincs Council have proposed this particular application. Through your pages (Scunthorpe Telegraph) we should like to invite them to a public meeting to explain to the people of Barton just what is going on, to provide evidence that we need this development and to explain why they have put this destructive idea forward for planning approval.
We urge our three North Lincolnshire Councillors to do all they can to persuade their Conservative colleagues to stop this development.
