In response to the article 'Fracking in the UK gets the go-ahead' on page 30 in the Scunthorpe Telegraph (06/10/2016)
Odd isn’t it that in the middle of Climate Week, one of our Tory MPs offers his support for Fracking in response to the Government overruling Lancashire County Council’s rejection of the process. This highlights the hypocrisy of the Government on two counts. Firstly, they are prepared to put the interests of big business before the will of local people and locally elected Councillors. Secondly and more concerning for all of us, it shows that they are not taking climate change seriously despite all their fine words in Paris last year. If we are to prevent catastrophic climate change we must keep 80% of all known fossil fuel reserves in the ground – that includes shale gas that the Tories seems so keen to exploit.
