Bottesford Residents Told: Well Done For Voting In What You Believe.

Ballot, Election, Vote (CC0 Image)

IN REFERENCE to M Murphy’s letter (Viewpoint, May 21) which blamed Green Party and UKIP voters for the Conservative Group claiming full control of the Bottesford ward of North Lincolnshire Council.

For too long we have been told to vote tactically to keep a certain party out at a General Election and it now seems that we are being told to vote tactically in local elections too in order to keep our least favourite party out.

What if those voters who voted Green or for UKIP were sick of the broken promises from the big two?

Or better yet, believed that the Greens’ vision for the future was the best on offer?

It is this sort of fear-mongering which is allowing large parties to look elsewhere to apportion blame rather than look at their own policies and question why their supporters are leaving in their droves.

To those 338 voters who voted Green in Bottesford, I don’t say “well done for letting the Tories in”, I say well done for having the conviction to vote for what you believed in.

Hopefully, there will be many more who do that in four years time.
