General Elections - May 2015

NLGP stood Parliamentary Candidates in all 4 Constituencies in 2015. This is a brilliant example of how the party has grown locally. For the GE's in 2010, we could only stand one Parliamentary Candidate in one Constituency (Scunthorpe). By standing a Parliamentary Candidate in each of the 4 Constituencies it meant that for the first time, the entire electorate across Northern Lincolnshire will had the opportunity to vote Green.

There was a hustings held on the 13th of September 2014 at The Ropewalk in Barton where the following Parliamentary Candidates were selected for the constituencies of Brigg and Goole, Scunthorpe, Cleethorpes and Great Grimsby.

Our Parliamentary Candidates

Martin DwyerMartin Dwyer - SCUNTHORPE

The Parliamentary Candidate for Scunthorpe constituency was Martin Dwyer from Messingham who works as a GP in Scunthorpe. At the time of his selection, he quoted; “I think job security is a major issue in the town. The steel industry would benefit from investment in renewable energy, especially wind power. Halting the rapid back-door privatisation of the NHS and returning it to full public ownership is also an issue close to my heart, and one which I believe is essential to ensure a robust and fair health service for all.”

Natalie HurstNatalie Hurst - BRIGG & GOOLE

The Parliamentary Candidate for Brigg & Goole constituency was Natalie Hurst who was born in Scunthorpe and now lives near Scawby. She is a partner in a local social enterprise, Just Grow, which teaches adults and children about food growing, cooking skills and runs environmental workshops. Natalie is keen to campaign for real change from austerity and welfare cuts to investment in decent jobs. At the time of her selection, Natalie said; “One of my priorities is to fight against fracking. This insane practice, especially at a time when we should be striving for research and development into renewable energy provision, should not be accepted. I want people to be informed about the science behind climate change and what damage can be done by unconventional gas extraction such as Hydraulic Fracturing. I also believe that the current system of government is not progressive for most people. Vested interests are getting in the way of making decisions that benefit all people. Politics as if people mattered is my ethos”

Carol ThorntonCarol Thornton - CLEETHORPES

The Parliamentary Candidate for Cleethorpes constituency was Carol Thornton who lives in Barton and previously in Goxhill. Carol has been a Community Development Worker for Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire for more than 20 years and writes the Community Voice column for the Scunthorpe Telegraph. At the time of her selection, Carol stated; “I will campaign on getting rid of waste at all levels of government, from recycling to MPs and their expenses! But the primary issue will be the Energy Centre for Britain (Immingham and the surrounding area) and the consequent industrialisation of the area, the jobs which should be created and all the issues that will hang on that.”

Vicky DunnVicky Dunn - GREAT GRIMSBY

The Parliamentary Candidate for Great Grimsby constituency was Vicky Dunn, a Project Director who lives in Grimsby. She is keen to address issues such as the cost of living, taxing bankers not bedrooms, supporting jobs in the new industries, renationalising the railways and getting ready for the impacts of the climate change crisis. At the time of her selection, Vicky quoted; “Everyone is feeling less secure, apart from the 1% mega-rich, and we need to change this. If elected I’ll work for the common good, not the corrupt greed of a few.”
